About Me

Picture of the creator/author of this blog, Sandra.

Hi there! Welcome to my little corner of the internet. I’m so glad you’re here.

My name is Sandra. I’m a wife-college student-daughter-big sister-dog mom with a LOVE for food. I come from a VERY BIG family. I was born in a tiny rancho (farming community) in Guanajuato, Mexico but have lived most of my life here in Michigan. I’m starting this blog as a way to document the delicious traditional -and at times maybe not so traditional- Mexican food my family makes. I’ve grown up watching the women ,and some men, of my family cook but no one has ever taken the time to write a recipe down. This is my way of changing that. <insert evil laugh here>

A little background…

Growing up here in Michigan I never took the time to learn to cook the foods that I most identify with and frankly, that I ate almost every day of my life. I’m much more comfortable making things like pasta, bacon cheesy fries, cheesecakes, bread pudding, cupcakes, cakes (I’m clearly more of a baker than a cook). I want to change that. This blog is a way for not only ME to learn to cook Mexican food but a way of sharing my family’s recipes with anyone interested in learning to make comforting, interesting, delicious authentic Mexican food. How many times can I say Mexican food? In documenting my family’s recipes and talking about the person the recipe came from I’m hoping these dishes live on for generations and my children’s children’ s children will be cooking their bisabuela and abuelita‘s (great -grandma and grandma’s) food one day. Is that a little morbid?

Hechando a perder…..

As my grandma says ” Hechando a perder se aprende” (You learn by messing up). So cheers to the messes and accidents that’ll come with me being in the kitchen. I hope you guys learn with me. Let’s get cooking!

Oh yeah. Did I mention this is a Mexican food blog?
