Margaritas

Margarita on the rocks

It’s September, that means Mexican Independence Day is happening so this time the Drink of the Month is Margaritas. On the rocks to be more specific.

Margaritas are one of my go to drinks when I go out to eat with family or friends or when relaxing at home. They’re so smooth that you can drink a few of them before they really hit you.

My recipe isn’t the most traditional version of this drink but it is tasty, and super simple to make. Tasty and simple to make is what I aim for.

Margaritas can be made with fresh squeezed lime juice or lime flavored margarita mix. I personally don’t like how sour they taste when made with either of those things. My husband, Chris, and I have found that Sweet & Sour Mix is the best option because it add a little bit of an orange flavor and a bit of sweetness to the drink. And it pairs great with a salt rim. Always do salt, never sugar.

Margaritas = Good Times

I love margaritas, they’ve been present at some of the best times of my life. There are so many good memories associated with margaritas but I’ll only share two.

1. The first time my now husband and I said ” I love you” was during what we now refer to as Margarita Saturday. This day went down in infamy and has never been repeated or recreated. We had 2 and half pitchers of margaritas that day (I don’t remember finishing the first pitcher). We were in the kitchen snacking on some chips and salsa, there was something playing on tv and he looked at me and said “I love you”. I got teary-eyed and said it back while thinking “I can’t believe he beat me to it.” We went back to munching on our chips and salsa and passed out on the couch soon after.

2. I didn’t have a bridal shower, I just invited the women of my family over one Saturday in October to have dinner, cake and play some games and celebrate my engagement and upcoming wedding with me. I made a pitcher of margaritas and the ladies that were brave enough to try them couldn’t handle more than one glass. It was the first, and so far the only, time I ever saw my mom and aunt Arce drunk. The raunchy, sexy, hilarious games we played after sobered everyone up pretty quick.

They’ll be so mad when they see I shared this picture but oh,well. Good times, good times.

Notes

If you prefer your Margaritas blended, simply place all ingredients (2c mix, .5 c tequila, .5 cup triple sec, and 1/8 c Cointreau) into a blender. Blend until ice is slushy in consistency. This will give you about 3 servings in a tall glass.
